Tips for the Work at Home Mom

Working from home is wonderful but let's face it...it's not always the perfect scenario you envisioned it would be! There's still kids to be fed, babies to be changed, laundry to be done and a house that never seems to be clean. Oh the joys of being Super Mom!

So how do you work from home, be mom and keep your sanity? I've written some tips of things that I've learned along the way that have helped me do just that.

1. Let yourself off the hook! What do I meant by this? You are human and are not perfect! As moms, we tend to think we need to do it all and we are quite good at multitasking, but it's okay if you just can't get all the laundry done and have the house looking perfect all the time. Stop feeling guilty, do what you can, and realize that on working days your number one priorities are work and kids.

2. You're out of milk, the kids are saying there's nothing to eat and you have nothing to make for dinner...time for a grocery run, but you still need to get your hours in...now what? The days I have to run errands and work are the days I make a quick simple dinner. Pick up a frozen lasagna and throw together a salad or make it a pizza night! Simplify things for yourself on days where you have extra things to do.

3. Laundry and housework are never ending but doing these things don't pay the bills. Save the cleaning and laundering for the weekend. Devoting working days to working will help you keep your sanity. Have the older kids help with these chores. It's a good way to teach kids about working together as a family and the importance of pitching in.

4. When the kids are fighting and the baby's crying take a break! Know when to say when. There's no way to work non-stop when you've got children so take breaks and just be mom. Take some time to go outside, take a walk, play a game or watch some t.v. together. The kids will be happier for it and so will you!

5. Get moving! Ever noticed that sitting at the computer all day does not do wonders for getting into your favorite pair of skinny jeans? You still need to take care of you so take a break at some point during the day and go for a walk with the kids or pop in a Yoga video. Taking care of yourself will ensure that you can take care of your family. You'll feel less stressed, have more energy and just feel better.
